Becoming a Fully Registered User:
Create a Profile and Upload a Resume

All students and alumni who are registering with Career Development to view full-time and internship positions must have a current resume in the system.

It doesn't do you any good to be registered if there is no resume to send out to employers or for them to access online, so go ahead and create one.

You can find a sample resume for your major on My Major Page, which you can access by selecting the Major Page that suits you from our home page or click here to learn more about the My Major Pages

Let's get this out in the open, there is no such thing as the "perfect" resume. A resume is only as good as the person who is reading it, but there are some widely held beliefs about resumes that we will check out for you.

We know that you will get a lot of advice from different people: friends, co-workers, professors, books, but we know what we are talking about when it comes to resumes. We deal with recruiters everyday and ask them several times a year about resume information and what is important to see on the resume. This means that the information we share with you is coming straight from the source.

Here are some general resume DONT's:

  1. Do Not list personal information (SSN, height, weight, sex, age, number of children). Most recruiters will reject the resume
  2. Do Not use a Microsoft Word Resume Template. With all due respect to Bill Gates, those templates are played out and over used...Be original.
  3. Do Not expect your resume to get you the job....It gets you the INTERVIEW
  4. Do Not compare your resume to other people on content. You are your own person, with your own life, make your experiences important to you only.

Once you create a profile in the Opportunities Database (following the steps above), you may upload your resume. If you need assistance on how to upload your resume, you can view the instructions on the How to Upload a Resume Page. You will receive a critique of your resume by email (within 48 hours) that will direct you as to what to do next:

  • Minor - Make changes to resume and upload new copy. Your account will be fully active.

  • Major - Make changes to resume and reload for additional review. Your account will be active once your resume is checked again.

  • Schedule Appointment - You will be asked to schedule an appointment with a Career Development staff member before activation

If you have no changes to make to your resume, you will be activated automatically and have the opporutnity to use all the services for Fully Registered Users listed above.

If you have any questions about the process, please send us an email and we will answer any question that you have. You may also visit the Office of Career Development in UC 268 for more information.
