Introducing Our Corporate Sponsor

Progressive Insurance: A Great Place to Start Your Career
Progressive is a large company offering an abundance of career opportunities, so matching a career with Progressive with an individual’s interests, skills and career goals might initially seem a little overwhelming..

Career Quest provides all of the materials and resources needed to support Progressive people with preparing and planning consistent career development. This site was designed to help employees identify professional opportunities that match their goals and prepare them to be successful in grabbing those opportunities. Career Quest puts employees in the driver’s seat when it comes to preparing for their future at Progressive. Since launching the site, Career Quest has been visited thousands of times with nearly 14,000 people creating individual development plans to help shape their futures with Progressive. And because Progressive encourages movement at all levels within the company, in 2007, more than 2,600 Progressive people transferred to different areas while nearly 4,000 were promoted.

Progressive operates 54 concierge claims service centers and more than 450 claims offices across the country. Experience, Inc. ranks Progressive one of "20 Great Employers For Recent Graduates." To compile the list, Experience surveyed hundreds of companies across the country, seeking those whose entry-level hiring and employee retention practices stand out from the rest. Progressive was recognized for its Professional Development program, internal Career Quest site, and mentoring rotational programs, as well as its on-site Fitness Centers and Gainsharing program.

"Our goal is to make Progressive a great place to work for all employees, and we strive to create a unique environment filled with opportunities for our people to realize their full potential and fulfill their career goals," - says Chief Human Resources Officer Val Krasowski. “We’re thrilled to be named to this list.”

With how many companies did you interview?
Just Progressive. I was working retail while I was going to school. Hurricane was tough – fixing my home – did not have time for job hunting – I wanted out of retail into a more serious career.

What did you like about our hiring process?
Straight forward – I was told what the job entails and got my questions answered immediately. The interviews were involved but I got response within 2 weeks.

Did you go through our college event?
I did not go through college event. I was raised in Honduras – went to college thinking that I would go back home to take over family business. But, I eventually decided to stay here.

Describe your first few months on the job?
First few months are fun! There is a lot of information you needed to retain and was a little stressful but you had people there with you that are in the same situation so there is a lot of support during the training process. I had a lot of people guiding me and answering my questions. My team leader was there to answer my questions immediately. The training process was excellent! The trainer was very well informed and incredibly helpful.

Tell me about your Progressive career history in 1 minute.
I have been through many facets of training. I transitioned into harder and higher level claims. I have received a lot of training and feedback. I feel prepared to go to next step. I have learned a lot. I have progressed in the level of claims that I managed: Non-complex, bodily injury, multiple injuries.

What is important to you working at Progressive?
The work environment. Flexibility of managers. Benefits are amazing! Good company overall. I feel there is job security – helping you move forward.

What has Progressive fulfilled for you?
1) Stability – you know what you are coming into – You know what your work week will be like.
2) Having fun at your job!

How has the professional support been for you at Progressive?
Been amazing. There is always someone available for me to help when I need it. Every time I have a question, I get it answered. There is always someone there for guidance.

How would you describe our culture?
Very diverse! It represents different cultures and different aspects of the world. I feel prepared to deal with different people. They are open to different ideas. That makes it easy to work here.

Are you encouraged to bring new ideas and implement them?
Absolutely! When I have ideas to improve work environment or increase numbers or anything at all, I am encouraged to share my ideas and management will listen. They absolutely have an open door policy to anything!

With how many companies did you interview?
Two.

What did you like about our hiring process?
It was quick and easy!

Did you go through our college event? Like the experience?
Sort of…I loved it !!!! I didn't really contact Progressive, they found me through the UNO graduate program.

Describe your first few months on the job?
Insane! It was a great experience, everyone in my office here in Metairie, LA are the nicest people in the world. It's been so easy to mix into the everyday life of the office, and help is at every desk.

Tell me about your Progressive career history in 1 minute.
My career history consists of playing Division 1 baseball at UNO, for the most part. After a career-ending injury (torn lower left/right abdominal wall), I put my head in the books and realized I was going to have to rely on college after all! And here I am, graduated last December…15th I believe. Progressive called me out off the blue one day for an interview, a week later I was in Tampa, FL for the final round of interviews, and by December 25th I was scheduling my first days and Casualty 1. Pretty intense, I must say.

What is important to you working at Progressive?
I'm not exactly sure, up to this point. I like where I'm at right now, but I'm still in the process of finding my true passion. Progressive is a great place to work, and for me, work environment is the #1 thing right now

What has Progressive fulfilled for you?
Progressive has given me the top notch training and experience to advance in this crazy world they call business.

How has the professional support been for you at Progressive?
So far as I can tell, the best in the industry.

How would you describe our culture?
At first…I would have said, "Man these people are absolutely nuts!" But after working here and seeing the culture and people first hand, Progressive's culture makes coming to work everyday a little more tolerable!

Are you encouraged to bring new ideas and implement them?
Somewhat, I'm still getting used to all the new people…it will take sometime for me to break out and start throwing ideas around. We'll see!
