INSCOPE Information for Students and Employers

INSCOPE - International Students
Cooperative Employment Program

International students who wish to work off-campus may only do so if the position they are seeking is acceptable by the INSCOPE Program. This means that the position must be DIRECTLY related to their major course of study and cannot be related to a degree that they have already received.

How is INSCOPE different from Cooperative Education?

The major difference between INSCOPE and Cooperative Education is that INSCOPE does not require a 2 semester commitment with the employer. Cooperative Education in its simplest form is a way for students to alternate semesters of work with semesters of academic study. In most cases it is a full-time placement that does not allow for students to work and go to school at the same time. The work experience is career specific, and the intent is for the student to gain valuable knowledge regarding his or her chosen career.

Like Cooperative Education, INSCOPE has the primary purpose of providing career related experiences for students, however, the program is designed so that students are allowed to work and attend classes at the same time. Furthermore, INSCOPE is designed to fit Curricular Practical Training (CPT) guidelines.

How do students apply?

International students who are eligible for Curricular Practical Training can apply in the Office of Career Development for INSCOPE Placement. To determine your eligibility for CPT, you must contact staff in the Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS), UC 260. Students interested in applying will need to meet the following requirements:

Undergraduates

2. Earned at least 30 hours or attended UNO at
least one semester if transferring
3. Classified as a full-time student
4. Have a declared major
5. Complete the INSCOPE application process
6. Fully registered with Career Development (UC 268)

Graduate Students

2. Attended one semester as a Graduate Student
3. Classified as a full-time student
4. Have a declared major
5. Complete the INSCOPE application process
6. Fully registered with Career Development (UC 268)

Once eligible students are encouraged to utilize all applicable means of finding placement including the Office of Career Development CareerBase Job Listing Database at www.privateercareer.org.

Students who are eligible to enter INSCOPE will be contacted by email once they have been accepted. For the Fall semester, students will have until October 15 for INSCOPE placement and for the Spring semester, students will have until March 15 for INSCOPE placement. Summer placement must happen prior to first day of summer school classes
