So how can I get INTO Graduate School? Making the decision to attend Graduate School is for some students a very difficult one. There are many factors to keep in mind before doing so. For some careers, such as medicine, law and higher education, graduate school is required. for others it is a matter of choice. Keep this in mind, a graduate degree is a choice that you have to make on your own, overall it will not affect whether or not you will hired over someone else. We have some resources listed below that will help you if you are planning on attending graduate school. If you are considering graduate school, then you can take a look at the catalogs and other graduate school resources we have available in the Graduate School Catalogs section in the Office of Career Development Special Note for those considering an MBA We all remember the 80's: big hair, big cell phones, Madonna, and Yuppies. The thought was that if you had an MBA and could talk business, you could be paid well. That is not the case anymore. So many students are deciding to get an MBA for all the wrong reasons. The most recent employment numbers indicate that people with MBA's are finding just as hard a time locating jobs as those without one. And it is especially difficult for those who do not have any relevant work experience. If you graduate from UNO in the fall with a business degree and start in the spring on an MBA, you are not making yourself more competitive. You are hurting yourself because you do not have any post-college job skills. Most graduates think that they can finish an MBA in 2 years and immediately start garnering a $50,000 a year salary. But without any relevant work experience you may actually have a harder time finding a job. If you want to get your MBA right after you finish your Bachelor's degree, go at night and work during the day at a full-time job in your major (not serving drinks or flipping burgers). Make use of the degree that you have and make the most of the MBA. If you need hard, factual evidence of any of the statements made here, come by Career Development and we will show you some numbers.
